The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has recently released a study of how American taxpayers will fare under the Trump Tax Plan.
Their study found that 2 out of 10 taxpayers will owe money this year. That’s 30 million Americans who are about to get a major tax shock.
What went wrong?
The tax bill has changed dramatically with the elimination of exemptions, doubling of the standard deduction and lower individual tax rates. Most of that seems like good news, but the problem is that the withholding tables (guidelines employers use to determine how much to withhold) didn’t take into account the big changes.
You may not itemize anymore, due to the reduction of deductions you can take. There are no longer any dependent exemptions.
Don’t get mad, get ahead!
There is still time to do something about your taxes this year. But beware of one thing. The window of opportunity is quickly closing.
