One of my friends never takes a vacation. Being from Canada, she instead “goes on holiday.” When I asked her, she said it was a left-over “English-ism,” that had stuck around up in Canada.
So that made me wonder why, if we in the United States use the word “vacation,” do states offer sales and use tax “holidays” designed to catch the back-to-school shoppers?
Regardless of the why, the fact remains that several states do offer this holiday, and they’re coming up fast. In this week’s What’s Hot I’ll tell you which states are having a tax holiday, when those holidays occur, and what’s eligible to be purchased.

Have you booked your tickets for the September Mini Maui + Financially Fluent! events yet? Maui MastermindTM Kona is just around the corner (in fact it begins on Monday). It will be a special event, but I know that not everyone can afford to go. The Mini Maui + Financially Fluent! event is specifically designed to help you learn the lessons of Maui, at a fraction of the cost. And, because your ticket price goes to help out worthy charities, you’re helping others while you help yourself! I hope to see you in Atlanta in September.
