I’ve heard it said that if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. I agree. I’ve found that I’ve had to re-examine and re-affirm my final stand, “this is how I want to live my life and business” rules a few times over the past few months.
As I built my company, and hired people, I had the company values printed up but sometimes didn’t spend much time making sure everyone in the office knew what they were. And that always led to conflicts down the road. These immutable rules are important for me. They don’t change. If I can’t have a business that does this, I don’t want to have a business.
Here are my four immutable rules:
- Do what I say I will do.
- Tell the truth so that it is helpful and empowering.
- Be on time.
- Say “please” and “thank you.”
What are yours?
